Day 1 Sperm joins with egg and forms one cell. This cell contains all the information for the baby's development, hair color, eye color, sex and skin tone.
Days 5-9 Fertilized egg implants itself on the lining of the uterus and draws nourishment.
Days 10-14 Due to the presence of placental chemicals and harmones produced by the embryo, the mother is now prevented from menstruating.
Day 20 Foundations of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system are established.
Day 21 The heart begins to beat.
Day 28 The muscles and backbone are forming. Arms, legs eyes and ears are beginning to show.
Day 30 One Month. The embryo has now grown 10,000 times its original size.
Day 35 Five fingers can be seen in the hand, the eye pigment is produced.
Day 40 Brain waves are detected and recorded.
Week 6 The liver is producing blood cells, the brain is controlling movement of muscles and organs. The mother has missed her second period and probably now knows she is pregnant.
Week 8 The developing life is now called a fetus. It is just about an inch long. Everything is now present that would be found in a fully formed adult. The stomach is producing digestive juices,the kidneys are functioning, forty muscle sets are operating in conjunction with the nervous system. The fetus' body responds to touch.
Week 9 The fetus will curve its fingers around an object placed in its hand. Fingerprints are evident.
Week 10 The uterus has doubled in size. The fetus can squint, swallow and wrinkle its forehead.
Week 11 The fetus is about 2 inches long, urination occurs, the face now has a baby's profile, and muscle movement is more coordinated.
Week 12 The fetus sleeps, awakens, exercises, turns its head, opens and closes its mouth, when stroked, the palm will make a fist.
Week 13 The fetus now has fine hair on its head and the sex has become apparent.

Month 4 By the end of the 4th month the fetus is 8-10 inches long and weighs about a half a pound. The mother is probably starting to show. The ears are functioning and evidence has shown that the fetus can hear the mother's voice, heartbeat and external noises.
Month 5 The fetus is about 12 inches long. The mother feels movement and if a sound is especially loud the fetus may jump in reaction to it.
Month 6 If the baby were born in this month, with proper care, he would survive.

Month 7 The baby uses all four senses of vision, hearing, taste and touch. He can recognize his mother's voice.
Month 8 The skin begins to thicken with a layer of fat underneath for insulation. Antibodies increasingly build up.
Month 9 At the end of the ninth month the baby is ready for birth. The infant weighs about 6-9 pounds. He is fully capable of life outside the womb.
